After graduating from Northwest Missouri State University, his career started as a school teacher in Liberty, Missouri. The love of teaching was an important ingredient for the rest of his career which included ten years in various management positions with Household International and twenty years with Orscheln Industry, including President of Orscheln Farm & Home Supply. Dennis is married to Avonda (Wilson) from Paris, Missouri. They have one son Mike who is married to Sarah (Spickermann) and they have two children Drew and Katherine. Traveling with family and being involved with the grandchildren's activities at Olatha East High School is their favorite pastime. They are also avid golfers.
